SYNOPSIS
Cliff Marston grows up thinking the father he never knew died in Vietnam, but when Cliff is set to go into his own military service, his mother Lorraine tells him the truth. That he is really the son of Jim Morrison, rock & roll’s archetypical god, the product of a passionate magical romance.
Cliff transforms as if by religious conversion, and Cliff Morrison channels his father toward musical fame and self-destruction.
He attracts attention and support from Jim’s brother-in-law Alan Graham, tours Europe with ex-Mafia boss Michael Franzese, and writes songs with Carnegie-Mellon scion Matthew Mellon. Waylon Krieger, Doors guitarist Robby Krieger’s son, joins Cliff’s band.
He marries Marlon Brando’s niece and after their divorce seduces a married mother of two, Lisa Walsh. He tears apart a New Jersey family, falls in love and has a child by her. He also does excessive amounts of LSD, heroin, and alcohol. Cliff’s behavior antagonizes and eventually repels almost everyone who befriends him. Only Lisa and Lorraine remain loyal.
When almost all is lost, Floyd Bocox, a local entrepreneur with dreams of national and international dimensions and plans to make them happen, takes over Cliff’s management. Floyd puts up the money to create and fund Lizard Sun Entertainment, supporting Cliff and his mother, restructuring the band, funding the creation of the new Lizard Sun Band and Cliff’s career, then hires Joanne Geffen for Cliff’s P.R.
On the threshold of success, Lorraine walks away from the multimillion-dollar deal Floyd negotiated with the William Morris Agency. The next morning Floyd receives a letter from the Morrison Estate stating that Cliff’s song called Liquid Highway has been authenticated from the estate and that is Jim’s voice on the song. Cliff explains that Danny Sugerman, the Doors previous manager, gave him the recording. Jim’s only testimony of having a child was that tape, according to Louis Riesman, Jim’s previous attorney. Jim’s voice is heard in the song Liquid Highway saying, “I miss my boy and think about the child that will one day own you.” The remainder of the tapes are unheard and in the possession of Pearl Courson, Pamela Courson’s mother, who holds the majority of Jim’s estate. Pamela was Jim’s soulmate.
Embracing his demons, Cliff acts out his madness in the manner that previously had imprisoned him. After committing robbery, he takes the cops on a high-speed chase ending with Cliff being tasered twenty plus times. He consequently becomes imprisoned as a three-time felon thus leaving Lisa, Floyd, his fellow band members, the underground LA music scene, and a cult of true believers, to live out the consequences of his ruined life.
Even now, however, redemption is possible if Cliff agrees to an independent DNA test to determine paternity forever. In 1992 Cliff was sent to Jim Morrison’s previous doctor, his blood was typed, consequently Jim’s parents allowed Cliff to take the name Morrison but would not say what the results revealed. Since then Cliff has refused a DNA test, maybe privately because he feared he may not be Jim Morrison’s son after all, but he’s now signed an agreement to have a DNA test performed on television so the fans will know for sure the test will be done.
Jim Morrison had more than 20 paternity suits at the time of his death, none of which were substantiated. Just that theory alone has never been broadened on, until now. Whether or not Jim Morrison does or does not have a child has been, and continues to be, the biggest and most long awaited question for both Cliff Morrison’s and Jim Morrison’s fans all over the world, and each day on social media these fans post that they want an answer, now.
